28 August 2015 – Singapore technology firm Ascenz has installed mass flowmeter (MFM) equipment onboard a tanker belonging to an accredited bunker supplier.
"We are still gathering customers' feedback on usage of MFM," Ng Joo Khoon of Universal Energy (UE) told Platts Bunkerworld.
The 4,966 gross tonne (GT) capacity UE Sapphire, a vessel operated by UE, received approval from Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to its MFM for bunkering operations on August 11.
“We started discussions in January as the dateline then was late April,” said Ng.
“After that there were some schedule changes and the final approval was obtained in August.”
The source, meanwhile, noted Ascenz performing the installation of the MFM system onboard the UE Sapphire.
“We chose them because of their experience in installing MFMs,” he said. To date, Ascenz has installed MFM systems on close to 300 vessels.
Chia Yoong Hui, CEO of Ascenz, earlier told Platts Bunkerworld that ship owners and operators are still trying to find out the best method of monitoring their ships.
