The Shipulse Activity Dashboard allows staff to directly monitor ongoing OSV performance and activity efficiency, Ascenz Solutions Application Support Manager tells Bunkerspot.

Singapore-based vessel monitoring and technology firm Ascenz Solutions says its Shipulse Activity Dashboard will soon be officially in service.

The new system allows identification of activities on board offshore support vessels (OSVs) so that operators and charterers can have better visibility over fuel and engine efficiency across the tasks the vessels normally undertake.

'Without such a comprehensive tool, operators may only have an indication of overall vessel efficiency and not full granularity as to the activities the OSV is chartered for,' Alexis Nyeo, Application Support Manager at Ascenz, tells Bunkerspot.

He notes the benchmarking tool that tracks activity efficiency will first be used by a major Malaysia-based OSV operator from February to service an American oil major.

'Oil majors have a stipulated set of requirements for certain activities,' explains Nyeo.

'For example, crew are required to turn on all engines and gensets when the offshore vessel is in dynamic positioning mode.

'The Shipulse Activity Dashboard builds on this strict set of requirements for activity identification that ultimately offers a reliable data mining platform and fuel consumption forecasting solution.'

Nyeo adds that the system is able to trace the state of each engine within a vessel, via a series of sensors, to validate and determine the exact operational mode the vessel is currently engaged in.

Ascenz then takes the information gathered to build an accurate and interpretable predictive model to transform data into meaningful and insightful information.

'The validated data is collected to serve as analysis where an operator or charterer can forecast a vessel's performance and fuel consumption based on activity,' he notes.

'Users are then able to widely compare fuel consumption data and gauge a targeted OSV's specific activity efficiency to other vessels.'
