The Engine Performance application provides a complete performance overview, together with functions that measures the mechanical health and operating condition of the engine.

Why is there a need to monitor engine performance?

The efficiency of any onboard machinery is directly related to its performance, and likewise, this applies to vessel engines that are used for marine propulsion and power generation. For ship owners to manage ship efficiency effectively, it is important to check the performance of the vessel’s engine from time to time to verify its working conditions, detect possible faults early, and take measures to achieve efficient combustion. By doing so, ship owners are optimising their vessels’ engine performance in the long run particularly with respect to reducing engine maintenance costs and pollution generated by the engine. Furthermore, since vessels need a substantial amount of fuel for its voyages, having a well performing engine has a direct impact on improving ship owners’ bottom line.

Saving maintenance costs with Engine Performance

The Engine Performance module assists ship owners with an intelligent health check solution for their vessels’ engines. Engine performance parameters are continuously monitored, including cylinder indicators like compression, injection timing, injection condition, bearing and misfiring, where data is transmitted back to shore via satellite network or GSM network to be viewed online on the Shipulse Portal. With this information, ship owners and managers can monitor engine performance remotely in their offices and instruct onboard crew to take corrective measures to optimise vessel performance.

Onboard vessels, the Shipulse Dashboard lets users visually monitor:

Specific Fuel Oil Consumption (SFOC) performance of vessels
Parameters such as vessel power

The application also leverages shipboard sensors and other data for a complete performance overview. It also generates charts and graphs for performance analysis and comparison.

Users and fleet owners will be able to measure the mechanical health and operating condition of the engine and will be notified of potential issues immediately, helping them to manage ship efficiency programs effectively.
